ARMENISCHE TRACHTEN UND TEPPICHE
 Naira Mkhitaryan & Ani Simonyan (Kulturzentrum Teryan)

Das Kulturzentrum Teryan in Eriwan (Armenien) hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, die armenische Kultur und Kunst in ihrer Vielfalt zu bewahren, aufzuarbeiten und weiterzuentwickeln. Im Rahmen der armenischen Kulturtage werden zwei Mitarbeiterinnen des Kulturzentrums die Geschichte der armenischen Trachten und der armenischen Teppiche erzählen. In einer anschließenden Show werden  armenische Trachten und Teppiche eigener Produktion präsentiert.

Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte entstanden  in den verschiedenen Provinzen des historischen Armenien jeweils regional entsprechend den jeweiligen klimatischen und wirtschaftlichen Bedingungen unterschiedliche Volkstrachten. An ihnen lässt sich nicht nur die soziale Stellung ihrer Trägerschaft ablesen, sondern auch ein wertvoller Einblick in lokale Sitten und Gebräuche gewinnen.

„Teryan Cultural Centre“ NGO was founded in early2000s. The centre studies the life and heritage of the great Armenian poet VahanTeryan, as well as Armenian traditional costumes-reviving the unique garmentsof different regions of Historical Armenia.  In 2002 Lilit Melikyan, painter-designer, wasappointed the director of the centre.

„Teryan cultural centre“ NGO has been engaged in wide range of cultural-educationalactivities. The company’s mission is to promote the spiritual and culturalvalues of Armenians, Armenian literature and fine arts. The center’s goal is torestore, protect, create and disseminate national/local culture. The company’smission is also to cultivate national clothing and create stylizedcostumes/attires with modern elements.

During these 10  years the centre has managed to collect andaccumulate large amount of scientific and popular literature as well as digitallibrary. Besides, the centre is constantly working with ethnographers and otherspecialists of field who regularly visit the centre to follow the creation ofnational clothing, take part in the process by their advices, accuratereproduction and restoration of each traditional garments. The staff of thecentre has access to various museums, as well as to archives to see the oldclothes and work there. Due to the years‘ work „Teryan“ centre has created fullcomplex of national garments of almost 8 Armenian regions among which areVan/Vaspurakan, Artsakh/Syunik, Yerevan, Karin/ Erzrum, Sebastia, Kilikia andothers. Besides, the centre is engaged in revival of the Armenian traditionalembroidery.  It is worth to mention thatall the garments above are close to museum exhibits and all are handmade.Centre is cooperating and creating clothes for artists, performances, films,videos, music videos, photo shoots, projects, charity projects and so on.
